As Charli XCX rises to the mainstream once again with her latest hit ‘1999’, she was invited to perform the nostalgic single on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She didn’t appear solo, however, as featured singer on the track, Troye Sivan joined XCX in ‘going back to 1999’. Charli XCX, who isn’t shy to use or overuse autotune, carried her autotuning tradition into her performance on the US late night talk show.

It’s not that she needs it to sing well, as she can pretty much do that with her voice alone, it’s more in a sense of embracing a tool which can take your pop songs to the next level. With that being said, Charli XCX’s music is very next level as she has proven on previous singles such as, ‘Focus’ / ‘No Angel’, ‘Girls Night Out’ and ‘5 In The Morning’. All of which were part of her monthly single releases earlier this year. There’s an entire article by one of our writers on why it’s time to recognise Charli XCX as the most important pop star out there.

I already did that https://t.co/N6X1c4vNzm

There’s even an article on the 14 times Charli XCX won Twitter because she’s just that pop star. Back to the ‘1999’ performance and Charli XCX embraced the green which correlates to the primary colour of the single’s artwork. XCX has stated in many interviews that she has synesthetes, a condition in which you may associate a song, food or any type of thing with a particular colour. She has gone on record to say the condition is a blessing in disguise as it helps her visualise music more clearly.

If you’re a fan of Charli XCX and her recent hit, ‘1999’ along with Troye Sivan, then this a must-watch performance.
