Red Bull clubs like Leipzig face uncertain future after Dietrich Mateschitz's death

“As proposed and desired by both my father and myself, and supported by our Thai partners, a board of directors will manage the business affairs of Red Bull,” Mark Mateschitz, Dietrich’s 29-year-old son said.

Mateschitz confirmed that the board will consist of Franz Watzlawick, as CEO of the beverage business and Alexander Kirchmayr, as CFO, as well as Mintzlaff.

Leipzig confirmed that Florian Hopp and Johann Plenge will take charge of the club until further notice, while Mintzlaff will be a member of the club’s advisory board.

Red Bull’s sports arm is wide-reaching — as well as the Formula 1 team, there are football clubs in Austria, Germany, Brazil and the US, amid other sporting ventures.

Leipzig are returning to form under new head coach Marco Rose, having struggled in the early season under Domenico Tedesco.

The sixth-placed side are back in action in the Bundesliga on Saturday with a trip to Hoffenheim.
