A teenager has died seven months after a horror car crash left her in a coma.
Sally Hicks, who was 17, was critically injured in a car crash in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, west of Perth, in August.
The car she was in crashed into trees and a pipeline, the West Australian newspaper reported.
The student at the prestigious St Mary’s Anglican School in Perth died on Monday.
Her family has paid tribute to their “beloved daughter and sister”.
“Forever in our hearts,” was a message from Sally’s parents Sonia and Steve as well her brothers Daniel and Ryan.
“Be free darling girl to fly with the angels and watch over us.”
“She was kind, caring, incredibly smart, strong, funny and beautiful,” added Daniel.
“I’m so proud of her and grateful to have been able to spend 17 years with her.”
In a statement, St Mary’s School said Sally was the “beloved 2021 head girl”.
“Sally was a vibrant and confident young woman who was loved and respected by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
“She led the school with distinction in its centenary year and exemplified the true spirit of a St Mary’s student.
“The entire St Mary’s community offers its heartfelt condolences to Sally’s parents, Sonia and Stephen, and her brothers, Daniel and Ryan”.
In the months before she died, Sally has organised a fundraiser for those affected by Tropical Cyclone Seroja. She had also enjoyed an overseas student exchange program in the US.
