Tory Lanez will be serving a decade long prison sentence after being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

In July 2020, the rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was accused of shooting the “Savage” rapper in the foot after an argument in Hollywood Hills. However, at the time, the full story had not emerged and Lanez’s team denied this allegations which left Stallion enraged saying, “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lyin’ and s**t. Stop lyin’. Why lie?”

The Ontario native spoke back, literally on almost every single song on his fifth studio album Daystar released in September, claiming that he did not shoot the GRAMMY Award-winning singer and was just victim of a sour social media campaign.

Lanez was later convinced of three felony charges – assault with a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm – in December of 2022, and then sentenced to 10 years in prison today (August 8). He was taken to jail immediately.

According to CNN, LA County District Attorney George Gascón explained how Lanez attempted to “silence” Stallion after she accused him of shooting her in 2020 at a press conference following the sentencing.

“Over the past three years, [Lanez] has engaged in a pattern of conduct that was intended to intimidate [Stallion], silence her and keep her from defending and bringing her truth out,” Gascón said.

“Despite the physical violence, verbal attacks and attempts at public humiliation, [Stallion] remained strong and shared the events of that fateful night with the jury and the world,” he continued.

Stallion’s position as a popular entertainer has “brought a spotlight on the important issue of violence against women,” Gascón added.

The news outlet also reported that Jose Baez, Lanez’s attorney, also spoke at the news conference, saying that the rapper’s sentence was “incredibly harsh.”

“To get a ten-year sentence is extreme and just another example of someone being punished for their celebrity status and someone being utilized to send an example. And he’s not an example, he’s a human being,” Baez said.

It seems as if the law allows for Lanez to be out on bail pending appeal, so Lanez, Baez and the rest of the team plan to file a motion for bail in the case as they intend to appeal.

Stallion told Elle earlier this year, “I persevered, even as people treated my trauma like a running joke. First, there were conspiracy theories that I was never shot. Then came the false narratives that my former best friend shot me. Even some of my peers in the music industry piled on with memes, jokes, and sneak disses, and completely ignored the fact that I could have lost my life. Instead of condemning any form of violence against a woman, these individuals tried to justify my attacker’s actions.”

“I’m in a happier place, but I still have anxiety. Talking about being shot still makes me emotional. I’ve started journaling as a way to better process my thoughts, hopes, and fears. Prayer has also played a therapeutic role in my healing, because I can have honest and unfiltered conversations with God without any judgment.”

This is a developing story.
